Here’s a recap of what was discussed
According to Poq Studios, 64% of smartphone owners use their mobile devices to shop online. And smartphones are now able to support what consumers want: high-res images, interactivity and a sense of “now”. It’s up to fashion brands to take these things and package them in creative ways to show information like sale updates and new collection launches.
Given this information, it’s no wonder that luxury brands, such as Tory Burch and Louis Vuitton, have created apps to satisfy their clienteles’ craving for luxury on the go. But, it’s not just luxury brands who’re participating in the mobile space. Smaller brands, like Tatty Devine, who runs a unique customer of the month feature, are also present.
One of the key takeaways from the chat is that consumers are currently seeking more flash sales. The thrill of the chase has moved from live sample sale, to sites like Gilt Groupe and now to an on-the-go option: mobile.

During the chat, Poq Studio also offered some interesting articles for further reading including the importance of marketing through branded mobile apps and how to succeed with push notifications.
Kate’s character wears beautiful but somewhat 1940′s clothing in the film, and I especially admire her outerwear because of the fantastic silhouettes.
She pulls off structured blazers in a ladylike way through light colors and feminine details.
While Kate’s clothing as Mildred is beautiful, it’s still believable that a busy and self-supporting woman in her situation could pull it off because the costume designer never makes her look too perfect.
To take inspiration from the television mini-series Mildred Pierce and its’ leading lady, find a structured skirt suit that fits you perfectly, or wear a retro floral dress with a blazer over it. Dark jewel tones, like deep blue or emerald green, are good for the fall season, as well as for the period that you’re mimicking. Wear your favorite oversized clutch and a pair of heeled shoes that have a vintage flair to them. Mildred loves her hats so your last touch should be a beret or cloche!]]>
It still takes some courage to stand out and be yourself amongst all of your fellow students or colleagues who are dressing in clothing that is practically the polar opposite. In the movie sequel, “Legally Blonde 2″, my favorite scene is where Elle is waking up the courthouse steps amongst all men in black suits and she is completely standing out in pink.
Elle Woods wears a lot of pink, but she mixes it up in different ways. Suits, dresses and skirts paired with tops give her many options.
When choosing pink items to get a similar look as Elle, make sure your ensemble has different shades of pink in it to create variation among your outfit and accessories. Sometimes pinks can clash though so be careful and get a second opinion if you’re not sure! A pink- peach and a more pink- purple won’t match well, but a bright ‘barbie’ kind of pink will work with both.
Elle always has neat, well-kept hair and fresh and natural looking make-up, so keep that in mind if you want to take the inspiration to the next level. Have fun using Elle Woods’ bright, monotone inspiration for your look for the office or going out, and think pink!

Last week I moved to Manhattan and while I was bumming around my new neighborhood eyeing local restaurants and possible concert venues, I stumbled across the Mercury Lounge. After doing a little research, I came to the devastating realization that Charlie Winston performed there in May and I am many months too late to catch what was probably an awesome show. Ughhhh.
Charlie Winston, although not hugely popular stateside has quite a following in France (hence his adorable video with Audrey Tautou) and Europe as a whole. His songs are catchy and the talented Brit has a totally unique hobo chic look.
To emulate Winston’s look, layer a basic vintage styled button down under a two-pieced plaid suit or a biker jacket with epaulettes. If you opt for the plaid look, wear a knit tie that squares off at the end, allowing the tie to be loose enough for 2 or 3 buttons to remain unfastened. Pair this option with leather wingtip shoes.
When styling the biker jacket option, choose a traditional striped tie, also loosely tied. For bottoms, go for either a slim fit cargo or a drop crotch cargo trouser. Wear either of these trouser choices with leather boots that have plaid detailing and fold-over options. If you fold your boots, cuff your trousers. If you keep them up, stuff your trouser cuffs into your boot tops.
Complete either look with patterned or brightly colored socks and a coordinating pocket square. And don’t forget a hat! Go for either a trilby or a basic fedora, in autumn appropriate rabbit-felt.
Blair Waldorf’s style is ladylike, proper and always well thought out. She wears bold colors that still coordinate with each other and almost always wears skirts or dresses, sometimes with tights when it’s cooler weather. Blair also keeps her hair perfectly done, usually with her trademark headband.
Get the look with a necktie blouse and fitted blazer, or ladylike floral dress. Whether you wear flats or heels, make sure you can imagine someone on the Upper East Side wearing them. Keep your bag choices crisp and clean- structured bags are great for this look. And you can’t completely embody Blair without a headband!
Oasis floral dress, $71 / Silk blouse / Silvian Heach tweed jacket, $87 / Bertie ballet shoes, $87 / High heels / Friis & Company leather handbag, $53 / Tote handbag / Sonia Rykiel hair bow accessory, $70 / Salvatore Ferragamo hair accessory
Serena’s style is much more downtown, boho chic than Blair’s. She wears boots, denim, fringe, and usually has more natural and loose hair. This reflects her more easy-going nature than her counterpart. She isn’t afraid to reflect her more artsy side through both fashion and career choices.
Get the look with casual but still fashionable items from your wardrobe. Focus on mixing a lot of neutrals together in interesting ways while still accentuating your figure. Add floaty tops with bold necklaces to skinny jeans and a big bag. And with the right amount of confidence, soon you will feel like the sultry, sexy blonde bombshell!

Upon waiting to enter the first part of the exhibit I could hear a voice talking and some singing. As I drew nearer I could tell it was the voice of Gaultier speaking. But, once inside the room, I realized the mannequins themselves were alive! Each was dressed in a Gaultier finery and had personality. One portrayed Gaultier himself, introducing visitors to a glimpse into his world.
As I explored the exhibit I came across a mermaid, a moving runway with some amazing evening gowns and some highly sexual designs in glittering black.
Gaultier has never been one for shyness and this exhibit of his work showed just that. From dresses dripping with sequins to corsets dripping with sex appeal to knitwear with impeccable detailing, Gaultier’s finest work from throughout the course of his career was on display. A few walls of tvs showed his work live on the runway and in movies and music videos. One wall contained a small selection of his sketch work.
Since visiting, I can’t help but be inspired to become more creative with artistic expression in my life. After all, fitting in is boring.
Maria’s look in the film is simple until she moves in with the family and sews new, fancier clothing for herself. She always wears ladylike garments that accentuate her waist, a look that was very 40’s appropriate. Her wide straw hat is an iconic look throughout in the film, especially when she first arrives at the Von Trapp mansion with her carpet bag and guitar.
To get Maria’s look, pick 40’s-inspired pieces including collar-less linen jackets and simple, feminine dresses.
Don’t forget your straw hat or guitar, and if you’re lucky enough to score a carpet bag at a thrift store, go all out! Keep your hair and make-up simple for a natural look evoking Maria, and throw on some ladylike heels or more casual flat boots.

To start creating your own Ne-Yo inspired look, hats are a must to emulate his style. Ne-Yo often alternates between fedoras and other hat styles, and in 2011 launched a hat line, Francis Ellargo, in partnership with the Bollman Hat Company.
For the rest of your look, pick well made pieces, mostly in black, gray and white. For casual events, find well cut denim and sweaters with interesting detail, like stripes on arm. For dressier occasions, wear crisp white button downs under blazers in black or gray with contrasting lapels.
Always choose snazzy shoes that have a bit of pop. A black patent leather shoe or boot with a tongue in a contrasting color to the rest of it are perfect. And don’t forget to find a simple striped tie or pair of statement glasses to complete the look.
By using Ne-Yo’s aesthetic as inspiration, every year of your style could say “year of the gentleman”.]]>
For those of you unfamiliar with Ministry of Supply let me introduce you to the ultimate fusion of fashion and technology. Back in 2010 a group of MIT students got together and decided to bring space age fabric back down to Earth and into your closet. They have created men’s button down shirts that are odor resistant, sweat proof, heat regulating, moisture wicking, and wrinkle resistant. No really, check it out!
If you’re in the Boston area you can schedule a fitting at the MoS showroom located in Downtown Boston at 105 South Street. Ministry of Supply has truly merged the revolutionary technology of MIT with the fashion sense of 7th Ave. For now they are are only producing men’s shirts and undershirts, but don’t fret, I’ll work on bringing womenswear up to 2012’s technological standards. Until then you’ll just have to steal your boyfriend’s MoS shirt !
