Cinematic Fashion: Legally Blonde
“Legally Blonde” is a 2001 romantic comedy and surprisingly inspiring chick flick all in one. It stars one of my favorite actresses, Reese Witherspoon, as blonde bombshell Elle Woods. Elle went from being a Delta Gamma sorority president and fashion merchandising major at a school in California to a Harvard Law student. A pink, scented resume and excellent grades rightfully earned her a spot, and she has every right to dress in bold pink at the prestigious school because there’s no dress code!
It still takes some courage to stand out and be yourself amongst all of your fellow students or colleagues who are dressing in clothing that is practically the polar opposite. In the movie sequel, “Legally Blonde 2″, my favorite scene is where Elle is waking up the courthouse steps amongst all men in black suits and she is completely standing out in pink.
Elle Woods wears a lot of pink, but she mixes it up in different ways. Suits, dresses and skirts paired with tops give her many options.
When choosing pink items to get a similar look as Elle, make sure your ensemble has different shades of pink in it to create variation among your outfit and accessories. Sometimes pinks can clash though so be careful and get a second opinion if you’re not sure! A pink- peach and a more pink- purple won’t match well, but a bright ‘barbie’ kind of pink will work with both.
Elle always has neat, well-kept hair and fresh and natural looking make-up, so keep that in mind if you want to take the inspiration to the next level. Have fun using Elle Woods’ bright, monotone inspiration for your look for the office or going out, and think pink!
